CFS crews on Kangaroo Island responded to multiple triple 0 calls just after 5pm on Saturday 17 August, following reports of a gas explosion and fire at a fish and chip shop on North Terrace at Penneshaw.

The force of the blast blew out a large section of the shop front and crews worked hard to quickly contain the smoke and fire in the kitchen and also assist a woman who was inside at the time of the explosion.

She sustained multiple injuries and was transported to Kingscote hospital for treatment.

Initial estimates have placed the damage bill at $40,000 however that figure could rise once Fire Investigators attend the property and also determine the exact cause of the blast.
