It’s spring and the October school holidays start next week so it must be showtime on the Fleurieu.

It all starts on Saturday 1 October in Yankalilla, with its 140^th annual show.

Entertainment will be on throughout the day on both the shearing shed stage and the main stage, with a variety of live music and shearing demonstrations.

There will be all the usual show rides and sideshow attractions, a hands-on animal nursery, market stalls and a showcase of competitive exhibits.

Former district mayor and Yankalilla Show patron Peter Whitford will officially open proceedings at 12 noon.

Special attractions include Animal Capers, The Amazing Drumming Monkeys, Circus Elements and Xtreme Trials.

Gates open to the public at 9am; entry costs $10 adult, $5 children aged 5 to 15 and concession, children under 5 free. Full details on the website. 

The Strathalbyn Agricultural Society Show will offer its family fun day as usual on the public holiday Monday, this year on 3 October, following its equestrian horses-in-action competition on Sunday 2 October.

Located in the heart of the township, the show day includes carnival rides, exhibits of sheep, dairy and beef cattle, alpacas, dairy goats, poultry, cut flowers, pot plants, floral art, cookery, preserves, home brew, needlework, art/craft, photography and produce.

Both days run from 10am to 4.30pm; entry costs $15 adults, $10 concession, $5 children aged 5 to 14 and concession, children under 5 free. Full details on the website.

The Port Elliot Show is on the following weekend, Saturday and Sunday 8 and 9 October.

Activities for the whole family include roving entertainers, live music, McDonalds Animal Farm, Reptile Tent, performing horses and pony rides and much more.
