With the violent deaths of four South Australian women in the last week, the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence could not be more timely.

It is an annual international campaign that kicks off today, Saturday 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. 

Started by activists at the inauguration of the Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991, the campaign calls for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.

The Zonta Club of the Fleurieu Peninsula is joining with others around the state. the country and the world for 16 days of activism, which includes a gathering on the steps of Parliament House, Adelaide at 7pm on Thursday 30 November.

Friday 1 December – Cheffy Chelby safe space - 32A Beach Road, Christies Beach.

Saturday 2 December – Men’s March – Down Beach Road from 11am, followed by a family friendly event at Rotary Park.

Monday 4 December - On the Basis of Sex film screening and raffle – Victa Cinema 6.30pm. Tickets $15 includes refreshments.

Wednesday 6 December – Safe Space at Christmas community event – Christie Downs Community House 3.30pm to 5.30pm.
