A month-long festival celebrating photography across the City of Onkaparinga next year needs keen photographers and venues to get on board.

Running from 11 September to 11 October 2020, the festival will be spread across the council’s six wards.

Shimmer will feature a host of events including core and satellite exhibitions, outdoor installations, an industry forum, artist-led workshops and professional opportunities for the wider community to get involved.

Although it's not until 2020, the Shimmer planning process has begun, and the council wants to hear from amateur and professional photographers, as well as venues, that would like to get involved by:

  • exhibiting a solo or group show in a core exhibition installed across cellar doors and galleries in McLaren Vale
  • exhibiting single works in satellite exhibitions installed in shop windows throughout the region
  • hosting an associated event including open studios or skill development workshops.

All successful Shimmer photographers are in the running to have one of their submissions selected as a signature Shimmer outdoor installation. If selected, pieces will be printed in large format and installed in a prominent outdoor, high traffic, high visibility location within the region.

Applications are now open.

For core exhibitions, applications close 31 October. Successful applicants will be notified by 30 November.

For satellite exhibitions (up to 3 images) and associated events, applications close 15 February 2020. Successful applicants will be notified by 20 March 2020.

A reference panel comprising Paul Atkins from Atkins Lab, Gavin Blake from the Centre for Creative Photography, Che Chorley from Che Chorley Photography and Heidi Lewis from Heidi Who Photos will facilitate the selection process.

Priority will be given to work not previously exhibited in South Australia.
