Alexandrina Council is asking for community input to its concept design for a proposed permanent sound shell in the Strathalbyn Memorial Gardens.

The structure would host a variety of events and festivals throughout the year, replacing the temporary stages that are currently used.

It would be built on the northern side of the Angas River, allowing audiences to enjoy events and performances from the southern side.

The sound shell would serve as a shelter available to the public in between events.

The council expects constriction to cost more than half a million dollars, which is why it is calling for public feedback before exploring grant funding.

Consultation closes Friday 10 May, with the final report due 17 June.
