The City of Victor Harbor has launched a community petition calling on the state government to waive stamp duty for first homebuyers in regional South Australia.
The waiver would apply to those purchasing an existing home up to the value of $750,000.
Councillor Brayden Mann says high housing costs and upfront fees can make it harder for young families and professionals to buy their first home.
“This petition aims to make home ownership more affordable, attract and retain younger residents, and support stronger, sustainable communities.”
The petition can be signed in person at Victor Harbor Library and Civic Centre, Victor Harbor Visitor Centre, or Coral Street Art Space.
Businesses and community groups can also register with the council to display the petition form.
The petition is open from December 2025 to April 2026, with the intention to present it to Parliament in May 2026.
