Victor Harbor has three of the top 20 cheapest petrol stations in regional South Australia, according to the Royal Automobile Association.
RAA has crunched the numbers to reveal the top 20 cheapest petrol stations in metro and regional SA, helping motorists save at the bowser in the face of rising cost-of-living pressures.
Over a three-month period, the cheapest Unleaded 91 petrol in metropolitan Adelaide was the Costco at Kilburn – averaging $162.8 per litre – while the cheapest in regional SA was found at BP Mount Gambier OPT, averaging $173.3 per litre.
X Convenience, Liberty and Coles in Victor Harbor came in second, twelfth and fifteenth on the list, while Liberty Seaford was the only southern suburbs outlet to make the metro list, coming in at ninth.
Since the survey period finished on 10 August prices have again spiked, with Victor Harbor prices reaching up to $1.90.
RAA fuel expert Mark Borlace says the difference between the average price of Unleaded 91 petrol in metropolitan Adelaide between number one and 20 on the list was a massive 17.5 cents.
“Even within metropolitan Adelaide there’s significant variance in prices which means motorists can save hundreds of dollars each year by shopping around,” he says.
“With fuel prices spiking to over $2 per litre in the last week – it’s never been more important to shop around for the bets price.
“An RAA survey showed that people using real time fuel pricing apps like the RAA app can save around $342 per year on average.
“In practical terms, those savings can help offset the cost of your vehicle registration for almost half the year depending on what car you drive.
“If you’re heading on a regional trip, it pays to check the price at your destination before you leave so you can choose whether to fill up your whole tank now or wait until they arrive.”
