Landscape SA Hills and Fleurieu has issued a pest warning for the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula, with sightings reported of the Common Myna bird.
The Common Myna is an aggressive introduced species that evicts native birds from their nests, destroys their eggs and kills their chicks.
Its key characteristics are a black head, brown body, yellow beak, a yellow patch behind the eye and white markings under the wing and tail.
The most recent local sighting was in Encounter Bay and the Landscape Board is asking people to keep an eye out for them and report any further local sightings immediately to the Pest Alert Hotline 1800 084 881.
There is also a free MynaScan app developed to help community members, pest controllers and biosecurity groups to map sightings and the damage these birds cause and coordinate control efforts with local community groups.
