Regional Development Australia (RDA) is conducting a survey of locals and visitors about transport needs and preferred public transport options for the south coast.
RDA completed a comprehensive public transport study of the Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula in 2019. https://rdahc.com.au/projects/public-transport-study/
Its recommendation have been used to advocate for greater investment in the region’s public transport services.
The next step is to prepare a report card on progress against those recommendations.
RDA says that while some progress has been made in the Adelaide Hills, there has been little action on the Fleurieu.
It sees a great opportunity for improved public transport on the Fleurieu’s south coast, specifically between Victor Harbor and Goolwa.
Federal MP for Mayo Rebekha Sharkie and state MP for Finniss David Basham have thrown their support behind the survey.
They have asked residents of and visitors to the south coast to complete the survey and provide feedback.
Mr Basham says the public transport that does exist in the area is underutilised and has significant gaps.
“The Finniss Electorate Office has created a brochure of the Transport Options.
“When people pick it up, the comments are relatively consistent – ‘I didn’t know we had a dial-a-ride bus’ and ‘why isn’t there a service that covers Hindmarsh Island?’.
“I strongly encourage everyone to complete the survey. The results will hopefully indicate what is working well and highlight the incompleteness of the current options.
“I will then work with the RDA and councils to advocate for the strengthening of our Public Transport system across the electorate of Finniss.”
The survey is available online. The Finniss Transport Options brochure is available from David Basham’s office in Victor Harbor and online.
