The state government will fund expansion of the Victor Harbor-Goolwa Sea Rescue Squadron, with purchase of land to establish a new vessel storage facility.
Finniss MP David Basham and Vincent Tarzia, Minister for Police, Emergency Services and Correctional Services, announced the funding on the south coast last week.
The new storage facility will be in Victor Harbor and will house the scheduled VMR Vessel and Tow Vehicle to replace the assets currently based in Goolwa.
The Squadron’s new rescue vessel VH65, valued at $375,000, is due to arrive later this year and will allow its volunteers to focus on keeping the community safe providing a rescue service to the boating public.
“With a new vessel on the way and storage space already stretched, we’re delivering a new storage facility for the Victor Harbor-Goolwa Sea Rescue Squadron so that its hard-working volunteers can focus on what they signed up for” David Basham says.
Will Collins from the Victor Harbor Sea Rescue Squadron is enthusiastic about the opportunity of the new land.
“It’s been a while in the works. It’s going to offer us a really good opportunity to respond faster and easier and a lot more access for members.
“It’s very exciting times.”
