Southern District Women - SACA Premier Cricket round 2 review

Southern District Women’s first grade have started their premiership defence well with a second consecutive win to sit on top of the SACA Women’s T20 competition. On Sunday the Stingrays travelled to Price Memorial to take on Sturt. Southern District batted first and compiled a handy total of 5/115 from their 20 overs. It was a solid team effort with good contributions from Jamin Earl (32 not out), Sheridan Howell (23) and Hannah Armstrong (21 not out). Neeve Reiman was the pick of the bowlers for Sturt snaring 3/23 (4). The Stingrays started well in the field with Callie Wilson (1/8) removing Sturt skipper Amelia Rault for a first ball duck and the score was 1/1. Wickets were hard to come by for the Stingrays but Sturt started to fall behind the run rate as they were restricted to 4/88 from their 20 overs. Kelly Armstrong (1/11) and Ella Wilson (1/11) were the other wicket takers for the victorious Stingrays.

The second grade were at Ford Oval taking on Kensington and unfortunately came up short in their victory quest. Kensington made 6/92 from their 20 overs with Donna Clark (1/8), Annabelle Yelland (1/12), Cassidy Perkins (1/14) and Jessica Modistach (1/27) the wicket takers for the Stingrays. The Southern District batting response saw them fall 15 runs short to finish on 6/77 from their 20 overs. Only Clark (13), Brieanna Medder (12) and Rachael Greenshields (11 not out) made double figures for the Stingrays.

Next week the first grade take on West Torrens (10.30am) in the first game of a double header at Bice Oval while the second grade face Sturt from 1.40pm.
