Southern Districts (Great Southern/Kangaroo Island/Southern) won the SA Country Football Championships for the first time since 2015 following their comprehensive 43-point win, 11.17 (83) to 6.4 (40), in the Grand Final against reigning champion Central at Victor Harbor Oval yesterday. Southern Districts also had seven players selected in the Team of the Championships, Bailey Marshman chosen as Best Under-21 Player and coach Scott Wendelborn claimed the Bill Murdoch Medal as Coach of the Championships. Northern’s Jordan Fuller took home the Don McSweeny Medal as Player of the Championships.
In the Women’s competition, Northern won their first championship after a thrilling four-point victory against Murray South East, winning 5.2 (32) to 4.4 (28). Northern’s co-coaches Phil Neal and Anthony Tidball jointly won the Coach of the Championship award while Nikki Phillips was the competition’s leading goalkicker with six goals. Phillips was also one of five Northern players selected in the Team of the Championships. Murray South East’s Ella Little and Central’s Dakota Williams were joint winners of both the Player of the Championships award and Best Under-21 Player. Host Southern Districts finished third.
