Southern Districts Women - SACA Premier Cricket round 1 review

The SACA Women’s Twenty20 competition started on Sunday with reigning premiers Southern Districts hosting Glenelg at Bice Oval. Southern Districts won both the first grade and second grade Twenty20 titles last season as well as the second grade (40 over) competition. Hannah Sampson has been re-appointed as Women’s High Performance Coach and the club have added new recruits in Jasmin Earl (Sturt), Shania McKinnon (Kensington) and Sharni Tansell (Sturt).

The Stingrays started well against Glenelg with Kelly Armstrong taking the attack to the bowlers with a top-scoring 36 from 31 balls (4 x 4’s). Handy contributions from Jasmin Earl (15) and skipper Jess O’Reilly (14) saw the Stingrays through to a competitive total of 8/111 from their 20 overs. Mikayla Mark was the pick of the Glenelg bowlers taking 3/16 (3). The Stingrays dominated Glenelg in the run chase as they were bowled out for just 64 to give Southern Districts a 47-run win. Armstrong (3/8), Gemma Kennedy (3/8), Amy Peterson (2/4) and Callie Wilson (2/6) did all the damage with the ball. The second grade had a bye.

Next week the first grade take on Sturt at Price Memorial Oval (10.30am) while the second grade face Kensington at Parkinson Oval (1.00pm).
