Sports precinct building design released

Building designs for the new multi-purpose clubrooms at the Goolwa Oval Sports Precinct have been released, with construction expected to start next month.

The design follows a detailed consultation process with nine of Goolwa’s sporting groups who use the current facilities, and brings to life their aspirations to create a family friendly space that brings people together.

The new building marks an exciting milestone for the project, which will provide amenities for numerous users in one unique multifunctional space.

The design features a new two-story building, including change rooms, first aid rooms, umpire spaces, toilets, social spaces, canteen, kitchen, bar and multiple storage areas.

The works will incorporate environmental elements including solar panels, rainwater storage and recycled materials.

The project has been made possible through funding from the federal government and the state government’s Grassroots Football, Cricket and Netball Facility Program.

With designs now in place, construction will begin in December and it is anticipated that it will be completed in late September 2021.

Alexandrina Mayor Keith Parkes says the Goolwa Oval Sports Precinct will help meet the growing need for recreational facilities within the region.

"I am delighted to see the design and redevelopment of these fantastic new sports facilities. Council is committed to delivering this important project for the benefit of our whole community.”

Alexandrina Council Chief Executive Officer Glenn Rappensberg says the project will bring many positive benefits to the region.

“The Master Plan was created in October 2019 with a vision to create an engaging, contemporary and cohesive space for a multitude of sporting groups.

“This investment by government has both social and economic benefits for our region and will stimulate our local clubs, businesses and community groups to grow and flourish."

The concept designs can be viewed on Alexandrina Council’s website.
