State award recognises Fleurieu womenLibby Tozer receives her Irene Bell award.

Two Fleurieu women have been recognised by the International Women’s Day Association SA for their efforts to assist women in South Australia.

Middleton’s Libby Tozer and McLaren Vale’s Louise Flaherty were named joint winners of the Irene Bell Award at a ceremony in Adelaide last week.

Libby is the founder of the She Is Seen Movement, a growing movement aimed at normalising normal women’s body shapes. She is best known for her mass photo shoots of women in their black underwear.

Libby has recently launched a podcast covering women’s issues, including many taboo topics, with the aim of further showing that women should be proud of the way they look and feel good in their skin, and of their life journeys.

“Having personal confidence is important to underpin quality decision-making.  We tend to make poorer decisions if we don’t feel confident in ourselves, and I want to change that,” Libby says.

Louise is the founder of Little Big Bush Camps and Louise Flaherty Counselling, which offers camps and events to help strengthen the connection between parents and their teens through a Rites of Passage framework, nature-based activities, counselling and parent child camps.

“Our vision is to provide an inspiring learning environment, where parents, tweens and teens can learn and thrive in their relationships with themselves and each other,” Louise says.

The Irene Bell Award seeks to recognise women making a difference for other women in the fields of community involvement, leadership and support.

The late Irene Bell was a member of the International Women’s Day Committee for more than 35 years and fought for the unemployed, personally helping many with no thought for her own welfare.

She campaigned for women’s right to choose and was a great supporter of women taking their place in Parliament and local government.

The next Little Big Bush Camps event will be a Mother Daughter Camp in the April school holidays.  Follow this link for more details.
