Steamranger collision at level crossing

A Steamranger Red Hen railcar collided with a car at a level crossing in Victor Harbor yesterday morning.

The collision occurred just after 11am, at the Bridge Tce level crossing near the Victor Harbor skate park.

There were no serious injuries.

Witnesses said the railcar pushed the red Commodore about five or six metres down the track towards.

The train had left the Victor Harbor train station only minutes before the collision.

Passengers had to remain on board for some time until the rear two carriages were uncoupled and returned to the train station.

The Red Hen sustained no obvious damage with the only sign of a collision some broken window glass from the car on the front buffers.

Cockle train services had to be cancelled for the remainder of the day.

Drivers are urged to slow down and take care at the level crossings in the area, particularly as the number of Steamranger tourist services increases throughout the holidays.

The Steamranger will run again on Wednesday 22 December and then commence daily services from Monday 27 December until the end of school holidays on January 30.

Services run from the historic wharf precinct at Goolwa and reach the Victor Harbor train station after a 30-minute journey through Middleton and Port Elliot.

The Steamranger is now offering discounted fares to locals on some services.

It also has gift vouchers for the last-minute Christmas ideas.
