Stingrays 'A' grade in comprehensive victory over Prospect

Southern Districts’ first grade has moved up to sixth spot on the SACA Premier Cricket ladder after a convincing eight-wicket win over Prospect in round eight action at Bice Oval. Prospect won the toss and chose to bat and were set for a competitive total as they reached 2/106 thanks mostly to Lachie Blunden (48) and Ross Richardson (42) putting on 64 runs for the third wicket. The Stingrays were keeping it tight and the visitors felt the pressure as they lost their last eight wickets for just 36 runs to be bowled out for 142. In his first ‘A’ grade game for the season, Jake Marshall snared 4/34 (10). Ben Twohig (2/23) and Lewis Hatchett (2/27) were the other multiple wicket takers. The Stingrays were untroubled in chasing down the small target, knocking off the winning runs in the 31st over. Skipper Josh Barrett (59 not out) and Brendan McCormack (51) added 88 for the second wicket to set up the victory.

In other games, Southern Districts second grade defeated Prospect by six wickets, the third grade went down by eight wickets while the fourths also went down, losing to Prospect at Broadview Oval by 22 runs.
