Stingrays notch back-to-back victories

Southern Districts has won their second successive match in the SACA Premier Cricket ‘A’ grade competition with a convincing six-wicket victory over Glenelg at Glenelg Oval. After winning the toss and deciding to bat first, the home side got off to a solid start with openers Ben Bullimore (28) and Liam Scott (13) putting on 29 for the first wicket before Huw Stone (3/37) and Trent Riddle (3/44) ripped through the top order to reduce the home side to a precarious 6/64. Josh Roach (34) was joined by Harry Cunningham (65) and this pair set about resurrecting the innings with an excellent 103-run seventh wicket stand that eventually saw the Seahorses through to a competitive total of 9/193 from their 50 overs.

The Stingrays got off to a fantastic start in pursuit of victory with skipper Josh Barrett scoring a brilliant 81 from just 89 balls (7 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s) and Nicholas Bowen (24) adding 85 for the first wicket. Handy contributions from Brendan McCormack (20) and Sunam Gautam (18) lifted the visitors within sight of victory at 4/162. Chris Russo (35 not out) and David Sboro (10 not out) comfortably saw the Stingrays home by six wickets with 18 balls to spare.

The win lifted Southern Districts into fourth spot on the first grade ladder after three rounds. The competition now moves into two-day mode with the Stingrays hosting Tea Tree Gully at Bice Oval in round four (26/10 & 2/11) with the game to get underway at 10:30am.
