Stingrays upset Magpies in Great Southern Women's Football

Yankalilla/Encounter Bay Stingrays won their third game of the season with a thrilling one-point win against Goolwa/Port Elliot during round seven action of the FPAG ‘A’ Grade Women’s competition in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL). In a low-scoring affair, the Stingrays won 2.8 (20) to 3.1 (19). Erin Smith and Dakota Oniszk kicked one goal each for the Stingrays, while Cassie Burrows, Caitlin Curyer, and Indiana Quaremba were the goalkickers for the Magpies. Best players for the triumphant Stingrays included Kimberley Rowe, Jaimi Griffen, Kelesha Rewiti-Edwards, Jemma Ellis, and Georgia Weatherspoon. Goolwa/Port Elliot were best served by Renee Moon, Tessa Grant, Megan Hoad, Amber McKinlay, and Indi Miller. 


McLaren Districts kept the pressure on for a top-two spot with a 63-point victory at Victor Harbor on Friday night. The Eagles led by 22 points at quarter time, 47 points at halftime and 54 points at the last change, before winning 10.9 (69) to 1.0 (6). Kiahni Russell (3), Emily Rowe (2), Caitlin Ross (2), and Alycia Hepburn (2) were the multiple goalkickers for the Eagles, while Lily Jinks was the sole goalkicker for ‘Victor’. Best players for McLaren Districts were Ross, Ally Bailey, Rowe, Kiera Harvey, and Alyssa Hann. ‘Victor’ was well served by Tegan Yeomans, Aloura Kirk, Jasmine Bailey, Lily Harrison, and Natasha Fairhurst.


Willunga stayed top of the ladder after a comfortable 93-point win against Myponga-Sellicks. The Demons led by 35 points at quarter time, 52 points at halftime and 72 points at the last change, before winning 13.15 (93) to 0.0 (0). Emma Fitzpatrick kicked five goals for Willunga and she was well supported by Jessica Harris who kicked three goals. Best players for the reigning premier included Kirstin Remfrey, Ada Anninos, Tamara Page, Abby Woodward and Fitzpatrick. Best for the Mudlarks were Nari Wright, Tara Ludlow, Carla Humphrys, Raffael Lombardozzi, and Imogen Harney.
