A man was arrested after being caught with a stolen trailer at Port Willunga overnight.

Police pulled over a vehicle on the Esplanade, Port Willunga about 2.45am on Thursday 11 May.

The driver, a 49-year-old Morphett Vale man, was issued with an expiation notice for driving with an expired licence.

Further inquiries revealed the trailer he was towing had just been stolen from a Port Willunga address.

The trailer also contained a high-pressure industrial water pump.

Officers suspect the trailer had been stolen only a few minutes before the man was pulled over by police.

The man was arrested and charged with theft and bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 16 June.

The stolen trailer and pump were returned to the owner.
