Strathalbyn locals charged over Murray Bridge tyre slashings

Police have arrested three adults (including a Strathalbyn man and woman) in relation to damage to car tyres in Murray Bridge that occurred on Monday morning.

All three have all been charged with twenty three counts of property damage and two counts of carrying an offensive weapon.

Just before 2am on Monday 5 September police were patrolling in Owl Drive when they noticed a car with flat tyres. The patrol thought it was suspicious and on further inspection noticed three tyres had been deflated.

Police were then contacted throughout the day by numerous other Murray Bridge residents who had woken to find damage to their vehicles.

Around 12.30am this morning (Thursday 8 September), police were conducting proactive patrols in Owl Drive, when they noticed two people acting suspiciously in the street.

Police spoke to these two adults and searched them, locating knives on both of them.

Whilst talking to these two people, a third person approached the group.

They were also searched and found to be in possession of a knife.

All three were arrested and taken to the Murray Bridge Police Station.

Whilst at the station, police officers conducted further checks, and it will be alleged that these three people were also responsible for the damage to a number of vehicles Monday morning.

A 23 year-old male from Strathalbyn, a 23 year-old female from Strathalbyn and a 21 year-old male from Murray Bridge have all been charged with twenty three counts of property damage and two counts of carrying an offensive weapon.

All three have been bailed with strict conditions and are due to appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court on 7 November.
