Strathalbyn Softball juniors review

Hills Softball Association Under 14 Mixed (Strathalbyn v Pirates)

With a team of nearly all new players and only seven of them, Strathalbyn went up to bat and made great choices at which balls to swing at with nearly every player gaining a walk which pushed them all around the diamond to bring in runs to Tallera Spinks, Sam Baker, Lincoln Strange, Kodi Goodwin, Scarlett Finn and T. Spinks again for a total of six. Pirates pitcher/catcher combo of Charlie Askew to Jet Donoghue made two K2’s and also combined for an out at home to end the innings. Pirates first turn at bat also gained them some walks but safe hits to Hugo Owen and Elsie Bloffwitch, one of which was fielded well in the outfield by Strath’s Tayah Thornton helped to get runners around to bring home the full seven runs allowed with Strath’s pitcher/catcher combo of T. Spinks to Naite Spinks getting a K2 and Baker making an out at first.

The second batting dig for Strath gained walks for both the Spinks’ with Naite eventually stealing home for their only run in the innings with all three outs K2’s made by Pirates. Pirates second turn at bat had safe hits to Chase Donoghue, Courtney Goodman and Elliot Lawson with a two baser to Jack Walters and a three baser to J. Donoghue which again brought in the full seven runs with Strath only able to make the one out by T. Spinks fielding well and throwing cleanly to Baker at first base.

The third dig for Strath had a bit more batting confidence with more players getting bat on to ball but they were left stranded on bases as Pirates made two outs at first and another K2 to end the innings and the game as time was called. Final scores were Pirates 14 to Strathalbyn 7.

Well done to our new team, it is not easy playing short and with many of you playing your first game. You all did a great job of picking the right pitches to swing at and doing some great fielding. Your skills and confidence will continue to grow throughout the season and your coaches were very happy with how you played and your support for each other. Go Panthers!
