Strathalbyn v Hahndorf (Hills Softball Association ‘A’ Grade)

Hahndorf’s first batting dig had safe hits to Zoe Marrich, Peyton Daniels and Mia Oats-Willis with Marrich the only runner to get home with Strath’s pitcher/catcher combo of Tessa Norris to Britt Jackson working well together for two K2’s and a catch taken at centre field by Rebekah Mayes ending the innings. Strath came in to bat and had a safe hit to Kim Cutting to get her on base followed by a sacrifice bunt to Mayes, the first out, to move Cutting around followed by Hahndorf’s Marrich at centre taking a catch and sending it home for the tag out for a double play and preventing any runs home.

The second dig for Hahndorf was three up three down with Cutting taking a catch at shortstop, Jarrah Taylor fielding and throwing to Kathryn “Buttsy” Milne at first and Jackson recovering well to also throw to first for the third out. Strath’s second turn at bat produced a safe hit to Jackson who moved around the bases and was brought home by a bunt to Ashlee Peterson who also ran the bases to get home after a wild throw to first. Hahndorf made an out at first and their pitcher/catcher combo of Daniels to Georgia King gained two K2’s to send Strath from the diamond.

Hahndorf’s third turn at bat had a three baser to Daniels and a two baser to Oats-Willis with only Daniels making it home thanks to Strath working hard in the field with an out at first, a catch taken at right field by Jordarna Wilks and another catch taken by Cutting ending the innings. Strath gained a walk to Cutting but were unable to add to their score in their third batting dig with Hahndorf making an out at first, Nichola Zobel taking a catch at first and Daniels also taking a catch.

Strath were able to hold Hahndorf to just one run in the fourth with a K2, a catch taken at first by Milne and another out at first by Peterson at second base. Strath earnt walks to Norris and Peterson but they could not make it home with a catch taken at right by Oats-Willis, another K2 and an out at first leaving them stranded on base.

The fifth batting dig for Hahndorf had safe hits to Daniels, Keira Trevorrow, Marrich, King and Megan Williams which moved runners around and brought home nine runs with Cutting fielding well making an out at first, an out at third and Norris now at right field taking a catch to end the innings. Strath needed to make runs but was unable to add to the tally with a K2, a catch at left by Rylee Zobel and a catch at second by Tahlia Larosa ending the innings and the game. Final scores were Hahndorf 12 defeated Strathalbyn 2.

Strathalbyn v Hahndorf (Hills Softball Association ‘C’ Grade)

On a cooler day after a week of hot weather, Hahndorf were up to bat first and got one batter on base before Strath’s second baser Laura Sneath made an out at first, pitcher Rebecca Sims also made an out at first and first baser Jackie Marsh fielded and played her own base for the third out, holding the Magpies scoreless. Strath started their batting dig with two K2’s to Hahndorf’s pitcher/catcher combo of Anna Bell to Emma Faber-Paul before Alecia Spinks had a safe hit to the outfield, stole a base and was brought home by a safe hit to Sneath before the third out made at first, left Sims and Sneath stranded on base.

Hahndorf had safe hits to Kerry Lawson, Katie Oliver and two basers to Michelle Gore and Elsie Bloffwitch which pushed runners around and brought home seven runs while Strath kept working hard in the field with another two outs at first and a catch taken at third by Spinks. Strath’s second turn at bat had safe hits to Marsh, Hannah Jones and Annabel McGregor but they could only bring Marsh home before Hahndorf made two outs at first and a tag out at third.

The third batting dig for Hahndorf had safe hits to Lawson, Bell, Oliver and Celeste Paul with a three baser to Bloffwitch to bring in a further six runs with Strath’s Spinks taking another catch, Sneath making an out at first and McGregor at shortstop also making the third out at first. Strath were still determined to bat well and had safe hits to Sneath, Marsh and Jones and with some great base running they brought in five runs with Hahndorf making an out at first, another K2 and a catch taken at centre by Gemma Langford to end the innings and the game. Final scores were Hahndorf 13 defeated Strathalbyn 7.
