Strathalbyn Softball review

Strathalbyn v Pirates (A Grade)

Strathalbyn continued their strong start to the Hills Softball Association A Grade women’s season with an impressive 11–2 victory over the Pirates on Saturday.

Star pitcher Tess Smith led the way in the pitching circle, delivering a commanding performance that saw her allow just one hit across the entire game. Smith’s control and consistency kept the Pirates’ batters on the back foot from the first inning.

At the plate, Payton Daniels and Georgia Tomlinson both produced big hits to drive in crucial runs, while Kim Cutting was outstanding with the bat, finishing the game with three solid hits.

The match also marked a special moment for Lara Tamke, who made her A Grade debut at first base and impressed with her composure and effort in the field.

Strathalbyn’s all-round team performance highlighted their growing depth and confidence as the season progresses, while the Pirates will look to regroup and bounce back in next week’s fixture.

Strathalbyn v Macclesfield (C Grade)

Strath started their first at bat strong with 8 runs scoring. Maccy was hot on the bats in their first at bat but thanks to Strathalbyn's strong defensive work only 1 run was scored. In the second Strath was again hot on the bats, a lead off home run to Rebecca Sims was the start of what would be a 10 run inning.

Maccy was again getting bat to ball but was held scoreless thanks to Strath's defensive pressure. Pitching changes in the 3rd saw Jerilee Nash step to the plate for Maccy and they were able to hold Strath to just 2 runs.

Annabel McGregor stepped to the plate for Strath in their own pitching change. A strong lead off hit from Lisa Lions scored their only run for the innings. A successful 4-6-3 double play and a routine play to the safe glove of Elise Duffield ended the innings and the game. Strathalbyn 20 defeating Macclesfield 2.

Strathalbyn V Redsox Blue U14

This week the teams were very evenly matched which made for an exciting game for spectators.

Redsox started strong with good hits to Connor Abbot and Brodie Mattingly. Strathalbyn was able to hold them to just two runs in the 1st off the solid battery work of Imogen Baker to Anna Scott. Patient batting and aggressive base running saw Strath achieve the seven run innings limit.

The second innings was a repeat of the 1st bringing the score to 4-14.

In the final innings a change of pitchers for both teams changed the momentum and Redsox brought in seven runs with a notable 3 Base hit for Will Gregory Thomas. With only 5 minutes left Strath went back to bat and Izabella Vanderzon hit a 2-baser and scored off Byron Strange’s Home Run.

A great end to a game. Redsox 11 to Strathalbyn 17, but unfortunately due to losing a player and dropping to six in the last 10 minutes, Strathalbyn will forfeit the points.
