Strathalbyn Softball (Under 14's) review

Hills Softball Association - Strathalbyn v Hahndorf (Under 14's)

Hahndorf started strongly at bat, with discipline and successfully swinging at strikes to get a mixture of hits and walks. The inning started well for Strathalbyn’s defence with two early outs (a K2 and a put out to first). Charlie Askew pitched strongly to Lindsay Butler, and showed good ball control with the balls very close to the strike zone. But the morning showers proved a challenge and the rest of the batters walked. Hahndorf’s batting dig ended when their seventh run crossed home plate.

At bat, Strath was hesitant to swing, which meant the first two batters walked to first, but the next three were out, with two strikeouts and a put out to first.

As is often the case, Strath rallied in defence behind new pitcher Eva Eglitis pitching to Bailey Bradshaw. A flyball landing behind the pitcher was picked up by Meg Keenan to make a terrific tag out by Tellera Spinks at third base. Hahndorf made one safe hit and two more runs before Askew, now at first, lunged out from first base for a great catch before playing the base for a terrific double play. Strath were once again reluctant to swing the bat, which had the exact same result as the previous dig, a handful of walks, a put out and two strikeouts.

In the final batting dig, Hahndorf continued their winning formula at bat (discipline at not swinging at balls, and connecting well when a strike was available) saw them bring in another seven runs. Highlights for Strath included great fielding in right field by Zoe Williams, almost making a put out to first. There were also some close attempts to defend stolen bases by Strath. The final score was Hahndorf 16 defeating Strathalbyn 5.
