Hills Softball Association - Strathalbyn v Redsox (Under 14's)

Redsox’s Henry Sexton, as starting pitcher, rattled Strathalbyn’s batters with his pitching speed. Few batters were confident enough to have a swing, and while Henry warmed up, the first three batters managed to gain walks to load the bases before the next three batters were struck out. In defence, Charlie Askew pitched to Lindsay Butler and wasn’t far off the mark. Redsox’s batters made it around the diamond, despite Strath’s attempts to chase them. Askew and Butler achieved two strike-outs and a fantastic tag out at home plate after a wild pitch to end the dig with a score line of 5-0. 

At Strath’s second turn at bat, it looked as though it would be a case of three up three down, but after the second out, Archer Brown took a walk to first and set the tone for the next three batters. Butler held her nerve on a full count to take the fourth walk and score Brown. Strath changed up the field in defence with Tallera Spinks pitching to Bailey Bradshaw. Windy conditions proved a challenge but Spinks persevered to enable a couple of hits by Redsox that, despite good attempts, didn’t result in outs for Strath enabling seven more runs to be scored. 

Strath got one last shot at batting, with Meg Keenan stepping up and getting a lucky break with a dropped third strike seeing her just make it safe to first. Spinks got on base and showed her consistent diligence as a focussed base-runner. An attempted steal at home resulted in a trap play and Spinks as the first out of the inning. Zoe Williams, Jack Walters and Brown all got walks for Strath resulting in runs scored by Keenan, Williams and Walters for a final tally of 4four runs to the Panthers. This wasn’t enough to send Redsox back to bat as they’d already accrued a convincing eight-run lead. The final score was Hahndorf 12 defeated Strathalbyn 4.
