Strathalbyn win a thriller in the Great Southern Women's competition

Strathalbyn consolidated their spot in the top-four on the FPAG ‘A’ Grade Women’s ladder following their thrilling four-point win against McLaren during round six action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) on Sunday. ‘Strath’ got off to a great start to take a handy 19 point lead at quarter time, but McLaren came right back into the contest in the second term to cut the margin to a solitary point at halftime. Strathalbyn pulled away again in the third quarter to turn for home with a 15-point lead before McLaren fought back again in the last quarter to close within four points. In the end, the Roosters hung on for a crucial 5.4 (34) to 4.6 (30) victory. Indi Miller from ‘Strath’ was the only multiple goalkicker on the ground with two majors. Best players for the Roosters were Courtney Mesecke, Tessa Grant, Tess Huxtable, Vanessa Kitto, Rosie Shaw and Heidi Groom. Gwen Humphreys, Sally Fuller, Layla Rogers, Katie Whish and Ally Bailey were best for the Eagles.


Goolwa/Port Elliot consolidated their spot in the top-two with a comfortable 24-point victory at Victor Harbor last Friday night. The Magpies dominated the first three quarters as they led by 36 points at the last change. The ‘Roos never gave up as they kicked the only two goals of the last term as Goolwa/Port Elliot won 5.6 (36) to 2.0 (12). Toshimi Angus kicked two goals for the Magpies, while their best players were Rachel Searle, Lucy Earl, Rachel Wood, Angus, Indiana Quaremba and Alana Browne. For Victor Harbor, Maya Overall, Skye Kartinyeri-Sumner and Alissa Brook were among their best players.


The game between Willunga and Yankalilla wasn’t played due to Yankalilla forfeiting.


Mount Compass had the bye.
