For over five decades, Strathalbyn has gathered to celebrate Christmas Where the Angas Flows, a cherished community event that dates back to 1974. What started with a small crowd of 80 children in pajamas meeting Father Christmas in the Rotary Carpark has since grown into a town-wide spectacle of joy, festivity, and tradition.

The event was originally organised by the Strathalbyn Rotary Club, with Father Christmas arriving in town in a horse and trap, greeting excited children as the community came together to share in the holiday spirit.

Today, the event is much more than a visit from Father Christmas. It has blossomed into a day-long celebration featuring carols, entertainment, fireworks, a Christmas market, and a festive pageant.

Organised by a dedicated committee representing the Strathalbyn Inter-church Council, the Strathalbyn Tourism Association, and local volunteers, Christmas Where the Angas Flows remains a central part of the town’s cultural and social calendar.

This year’s event is scheduled for Friday 13 December and the organisers are calling for sponsors, market stallholders, and participants for the Christmas pageant. This is an opportunity to be part of a time-honoured tradition and help make this event a success for the whole community!

The committee invites local businesses, community groups, and individuals to sponsor this year’s event. Your support will help cover the costs of entertainment (including rides for the kids), program printing, audio-visual system hire, insurance, security, and the spectacular fireworks display that will close the evening.
