Support breast cancer with a Pink Bun

A Pink Bun holds significant meaning for Najat Whittaker, franchisee of the Victor Harbour, Goolwa and Happy Valley Bakers Delight, and has long ‘baked’ her support for those affected by breast cancer.

This May, Najat and her partner hope to raise over $10,000 across their three Fleurieu stores in support for the annual Pink Bun campaign that donates 100 per cent of Fun Bun sales to Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA).

“Since June 2010, 100 percent of the money raised from the Pink Buns have been donated to the Breast Cancer Network Australia. We’ve got lots of merchandise to purchase like tote bags and pink lady silhouettes where customers can write a message of support,” says Najat.

“My best friend is going through that roller coaster and she’s coming out of the better side, so it touches on a really personal level. That’s why Bakers Delight do it- it’s the one fund raiser that they do every year because it’s quite a close journey to a lot of people’s hearts.”

“Across our three stores, we are hoping to raise $10,000 to support the Breast Cancer Network Australia. Of course, we couldn’t do it without the support of our amazing customers- without them we wouldn’t be able to achieve it.”

Money raised from this year’s campaign, which will run from 11 to 31 May, helps BCNA continue to provide free services and resources to people diagnosed with breast cancer, including their families and supporters.

Kirsten Pilatti, BCNA CEO, says the partnership with Bakers Delight provides an opportunity to raise awareness of breast cancer in every community around Australia.

‘We are so thankful to Bakers Delight and their franchisees for their generosity, dedication and passion that every team member brings to the Pink Bun campaign. They really believe in what we do and are a big part of the reason we can continue to support people when they are diagnosed with breast cancer.’

Bakers Delight joint CEO Elise Gillespie says this year’s campaign demonstrates some of the different ways their network of bakeries is connected to BCNA.

‘We are proud to be BCNA’s founding partner and can’t wait to see our bakeries turn pink once again to help raise as much money for them as we can. This year’s campaign has extra significance for us as it highlights some of the brave women in our own network who have had to fight this terrible disease and needed BCNA’s support. Visiting a local Bakers Delight during the campaign is such an easy way to help BCNA continue their work, so we encourage all of our customers to get involved.’
