Mayo MP Rebekha Sharkie will host an online presentation on renewable energy on Thursday 23 September.
Following up on her Renewables in the Region event last month, the presentation will focus on Totally Renewable Yackandandah: A Town’s Journey with Renewable Energy.
Dr Juliette Milbank and Matthew Charles-Jones from Totally Renewable Yackandandah (TRY) will discuss their northern Victorian town’s resourcefulness and resilience.
When the local petrol station closed down, the community bought the business. It also established the Yackandandah Folk Festival and restored the town’s museum.
Born out of a desire to be proactive about climate action, in 2014 the community established TRY.
TRY has enjoyed enormous success, establishing three microgrids; a network of community buildings with solar and some batteries; a community energy retailer, Indigo Power; a rooftop solar installation density of almost 60 per cent; and now a community battery Yack01.
The presentation will run from 6.30pm to 8pm South Australian time and will offer the opportunity to ask questions.
