The Member for Kaurna is on the lookout for a new trainee for his electorate office in Seaford Meadows.

Chris Picton MP invites those with an interest in government and administration to apply for the traineeship program.

The program is a full-time clerical-based traineeship for a maximum 12-month period.

Young people aged 17-24 years old (inclusive) may apply, although the age range is extended to 30 years (inclusive) if people are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, have a declared disability, have previously been or are currently under the Guardianship of the Minister for Families and Communities, or who are long term unemployed (greater than 12 months).

The successful candidate will receive on the job training and complete Certificate 3 in Business at TAFE.

“It's a great opportunity for people to get a go working in government and then potentially lead to other experiences,” Chris says in a video posted to his Facebook page.

Chris’s outgoing trainee, Josh, says he has enjoyed participating in the program for the past 12 months.

"It’s been a lot of fun professionally and personally,” he says.

The trainee's duties may include meeting and greeting members of the public, paying accounts, mail outs, filing, word processing, photocopying, answering the phone and general administrative duties.

The trainee receives a salary of $16,171.67 - $36,099.33 depending on their level of education completed.

Applications close Friday 7 August 2020.
