Terry tackles the Heysen and moreTerry Cleary at the start of the Heysen Trail at Parachilna.

Not too many people walk the entire 1200 kilometres of the Heysen Trail and even fewer do it as part of a longer hike but that’s exactly what 61-year-old Terry Cleary is doing.

Terry left Karumba on Australia’s northern coast on July 18 to start his 3 300 kilometres walk to Cape Jervis and the end of the Heysen Trail.

In two months he walked through Cloncurry, Birdsville, Innamincka in Queensland and down the Birdsville Track to Marree and to the start of the Heysen Trail at Parachilna.

He says he always wanted to walk the Heysen from end-to-end and thought why not walk the other part from the northern coast to get to it first.

Today (Monday September 26) Terry is planning to walk from Bundaleer to Spalding in the state’s mid-north.

He should arrive at Cape Jervis on Sunday 17 October.

Once Terry does make it to the end of the Heysen he plans to head to Adelaide where he and his wife have bought a house in Glenalta.

You can follow Terry’s journey via his Facebook page.
