Life has taken another step towards normality just in time for the school holidays, with cinemas at Victor Harbor and Noarlunga reopening.
Wallis Noarlunga Cinemas reopened on Friday 26 June for a trial weekend before opening fully for the school holidays.
The cinema has brought back some classics, such as Jaws and Moulin Rouge, as well as some films that were cut short by the COVID-19 closure.
New releases will start to roll out from July; check the website for session times and to book tickets online.
Victor Harbor’s Victa Cinemas will reopen on Friday July 3, with a mix of new films and return screenings from the past year.
The first week’s program includes animated film Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs and the return of the live action Beauty and the Beast.
New releases include The Personal History of David Copperfield and British romcom Love Sarah. Fan favourite Bohemian Rhapsody will return, along with war epic 1917 and The Current War.
Bookings can be made online at Trybooking or over the phone on 8552 1325. Check out the weekly program on the Victa Cinema website.
Both cinemas have introduced social distancing measures, including staggered session times and spaced seating; hand sanitiser stations; increased cleaning protocols; and contactless payment where possible.
Victa Cinema manager Jarrad Jenkins says the cinema will need to collect patrons’ names and contact details to comply with state government contact tracing rules.
“We are really looking forward to welcoming back our regulars and school holiday visitors.”
Wallis Cinemas marketing manager Paul Besanko told ABC radio there would be only a limited number of new release films to start with.
“We’re waiting for America and China to open up. The big companies … say they’re not going to release films until 80 per cent of screens are open around the world.”
In the meantime, dedicated cinemagoers can enjoy revisiting Fight Club, the Invisible Man, The Gentleman, Sonic the Hedgehog and many more at Noarlunga.
