Residents of the Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island have headed straight for the shops this morning, after the 7-day statewide lockdown came to an end at midnight last night.

Lightning, thunder, heavy rain and even some hail didn't stop the carpark filling up early at the Victor Harbor Central shopping centre.

Shoppers were reminded they still had to socially distance and wear masks in shared spaces.

Local cafes, restaurants and pubs have also reopened today but are limited to a capacity of 1 person per 4 square metres.  All food and drink must be consumed while sitting down.

Many have said they will continue to offer takeaway alongside dine-in service and will have multiple seatings per service. Customers are asked to book ahead whenever possible

Karena Armstrong and Alex Marchetti of The Salopian Inn in McLaren Vale posted on Facebook to thank the local community for supporting their 37 staff members by using the takeaway service through the lockdown.

Local gyms have now reopened with a capacity of one person per eight square metres.

The Southern Breakers Soccer Club and other sporting clubs will recommence training from today, but matches will not be allowed for at least the next seven days.

South Australia recorded no new cases of COVID-19 today but Premier Steven Marshall has said he continues to be concerned about the risk posed by the New South Wales outbreak.

New South Wales recorded 177 new local cases overnight. 

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced this morning that the Greater Sydney lockdown would be extended for at least another four weeks.
