If you can weld, panel-beat, do metal fabrication, pipe-work or sheeting the SteamRanger Heritage Railway needs you.
The historic tourist train service is looking for volunteers to help them get more steam locomotives running again.
While all volunteers are welcome, they particularly need to find people with metal fabrication skills to help out at their Mount Barker depot.
Vice President Andrew McDonough told ABC Radio Adelaide that the railway has a big fleet of railway carriages and “nearly” three working steam locomotives ,as well as a two more that need some work to get them operational.
“We’re particularly looking for some skilled to help get our steam locos back on track,” he said.
“We’re looking for people who’ve got skills in welding, panel beating, fabrication work, pipework, sheeting – all those real hands-on workshop duties that you could well imagine would be needed to restore very old locomotives.
“We need all sorts of people with different skill sets but it’s quite specialised when you’re working on locomotives.
“The more help we get the more we can add to our rolling stock and add to our services.”
The Railway operates the Cockle Train from Goolwa to Victor Harbor on Wednesday and Sundays during term time and seven days a week during school holidays. They also operate the Southern Encounter from Mount Barker to Victor Harbor.
