Third birthday milestone for women's business groupGuest speaker at the Women in Business Regional Network's McLaren Vale event, Holly Little, and network founder, Carolyn Jeffrey, celebrate the network's third anniversary with foundation members Nic Leavey, Wendy Hardy, Helen Sampson, Sharon Boath, Kate Henning, Jodi Van Der Linden and Elise Thomson.

The Women in Business Regional Network has celebrated its third anniversary with two get togethers for Fleurieu business women.

Founded by Carolyn Jeffrey, the network now has more than 230 financial members across regional South Australia and Victoria, 10 physical chapters and regular online events.

The network was formed as a social enterprise to create networking, training, support and advocacy for women in business in regional areas of South Australia.  Now the plan is to take it nationally over the next year.

Here on the Fleurieu, the McLaren Vale chapter and Strathalbyn chapter each held meetings this month.

The McLaren Vale chapter met for a sold-out luncheon on Monday 14 September at Angove McLaren Vale. The guest speaker was Mount Compass member Holly Little from Odyssey Coaching, who provided tips on how to create and run an enjoyable business.

She encourages women to reflect on why they do what they do, and to also put in writing exactly what their business mission is.

At the Strathalbyn event held on Thursday 17 September at the Victoria Hotel, members focused on opportunities for businesses coming out of the current COVID-19 crisis.

Carolyn Jeffrey said regional small businesses, particularly microbusinesses, appeared to be recovering well from the restrictions, although those in the wedding, travel and international tourism sectors were still facing tough restrictions and challenges.

As well as outlining a checklist of things people could do to work on their businesses if they weren’t as busy at present in their businesses on a day-to-day basis, Carolyn outlined some areas where she believed there were signs for growth. The list included Australian-made products, health and well-being, local travel, online sales and services, social welfare, tech support, training and HR, cost-cutting including DIY, legal services, employment services, cleaning and business support.

The next McLaren Vale function will be a dinner on November 2, while the Strathalbyn chapter will meet on 18 November. Venues and topics are yet to be announced.

The Women in Business Regional Network is open to business owners, managers, staff and those dreaming of owning their own business. Non-members may attend events but bookings are essential via Eventbrite.com.au
