Thunderers strike in Southern Football League

Ironbank Cherry Gardens won their fourth game of the season after defeating Aldinga by 54 points during round 15 action in the Southern Football League (SFL) at Cherry Gardens this afternoon. The Thunderers led by 14 points at halftime, before they kicked nine goals to three in the second half to win 18.22 (130) to 11.10 (76). Jak Goudman-Glasson kicked five goals for Ironbank Cherry Gardens, while Joel Cartwright kicked three goals for Aldinga. Best players for the victors included Jacob Matheson, Jacob Campbell, Goudman-Glasson, Levi Grigg, James Cross and Kyle Schefe. The Sharks’ best were Zach Young, Mackenzie Darling, Cartwright, Blake Florance, Noah Mulkerin and Harrison Jarman.


Happy Valley won their 14th straight match after a comprehensive 123-point victory against Cove. The Vikings won every quarter on their way to a 24.17 (161) to 5.8 (38) victory. Liam O’Connor and Dylan Brown kicked four goals each for Happy Valley, while Ryan Need kicked two majors for the Cobras. Best players for Happy Valley included Lachlan Hamilton, Brown, Joel Beeche, O’Connor, Cooper Rogers and Max Gill. The Cobras best included Michael Galley, Lachlan Hayes, Rourke Turner, Ty Bastian and Lucas Hill.


Port Noarlunga consolidated their spot in the top-three after defeating winless Morphett Vale by 145 points at Port Noarlunga today. The Cockle Divers led by 42 points at quarter time, 74 points at halftime, and 109 points at the last change, before winning 27.20 (182) to 5.7 (37). ‘Porties’ had 12 different goalkickers with Zac Sproule leading the way with six goals, while Scott Ridley kicked four goals for the Emus. Best players for Port Noarlunga were Nick Steele, Nathaniel Paredes, Sproule, Eduard Van den berg, Rhys McKay and Liam O’Connor-Dawkins. The Emus were best served by Braydan Hartwig, Damian Merritt, Ridley, Daniel Bode, Troy Sherratt and Braden Ritter.



Reynella kept their top-three hopes alive with a comfortable 64-point win against Noarlunga at OId Noarlunga. The Wine Flies victory was set up by a seven goal to two second term which saw them lead by 39 points at halftime. Reynella kicked a further seven goals to three in the second half to win 16.10 (106) to 6.6 (42). Bailey Marshman kicked five goals (77 for the season) for Reynella, while Brad Inglis and Vic Robertson slotted three majors each for the Shoes. Best players for Reynella included Liam Reid, Talon Copley, Brad Potter, Mitch Scotland, James Papworth and Dylan Roser. Noarlunga’s best were Nick Mott, Callum Gaspari, Sam Goldfinch, Jamison Snelling, Jake Anderson and Vic Robertson.


Flagstaff Hill won their second game in a row after defeating Christies Beach by 35 points. Blake Aldridge and Nathan Beenham kicked three goals each for ‘Flaggies’ as they won 11.16 (82) to 7.5 (47). Veteran Brad Kirk was named best for Flagstaff Hill and he received good support from Mitch Johnson, Ben Rossi, Beenham, D’Arcy Mitchell and Caleb McCormick. Best for the Saints included Clayton Wise, Shannon Archbold, Zade Kretschmer, Brock Wall-Murphy, Emmerson White and Michael Mazey (2 goals).
