The Great Southern Football League Women’s (GSFLW) awards were held last night with the ‘A’ grade medal ending in a tie as Amy Vitkunas (Mount Compass) and Tiffany Copley (McLaren) each polled 14 votes. McLaren’s Ally Bailey (11 votes) finished third, with Strathalbyn skipper Emma Chapman (10 votes) in fourth place. Undefeated minor premier Willunga showed what an even side they are with 12 players polling votes. Courtney Gutschmidt was the best of the Demons, polling nine votes to finish in equal fifth spot.
The under 17 Girls medal was won by Bella Rigby of Willunga. Rigby polled 19 votes to win by two votes from Esther Rayner of McLaren who polled 17 votes. Charlotte Collins (Strathalbyn) was next best on 16 votes to round out the top three.
The GSFLW finals start on Sunday (31 July) with a huge day at McLaren Vale. There will be four games played with the first game set to start at 9.45am.
