Yankalilla won their second game of 2024 following a tough 18-point win at Willunga during round seven action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) yesterday. The game was tight throughout with Yankalilla taking a slender six-point lead into the last quarter. The Tigers kicked four goals to two in the final term to win 13.10 (88) to 10.10 (70). Karison Kantilla kicked four goals for ‘Yank’, while Ryan Sherry and Daniel Bass kicked three goals each for the Demons. Yankaliila were best served by Chris Clark, Joel Field, Bailey Gaskin, Michael Thompson, Jack Fitzgerald and Scott Biddle, while Willunga’s best were Job Colwell, Bass, Brady McDonald, Felix Bekkers and Cameron McDonald.


Victor Harbor continued their unbeaten season after defeating fellow finals aspirant Myponga-Sellicks by 46 points at Myponga yesterday. ‘Victor’ won the first three quarters to lead by 46 points at the last change. The Mudlarks fought on well in the last quarter, with each team kicking three goals, before the ‘Roos went on to win 14.18 (102) to 8.8 (56). Bryce Gibbs kicked five goals in a best-on-ground performance for Victor Harbor, while skipper Sam Overall kicked three goals. Other good players for the ‘Roos included Dylan Kleinig, Ben Heaslip, Mitchell Brook and Jesse McKinnon. Scott Hunt and Darren Shillabeer kicked two goals each for the Mudlarks, while their best players were Ben Kennedy, Jack Cooper, Hunt, Sam Kennedy, Jack O'Hanlon and Mitchell Wilkins.


Reigning premier McLaren Districts won their fifth game of the season with a comprehensive 180-point win against Goolwa/Port Elliot at McLaren Vale. The Eagles led by 113 points at halftime, before kicking a further 13 goals to three in the second half to win 31.25 (211) to 4.7 (31). McLaren Districts had 15 different goalkickers with Codey Ellison (5), Cameron Jarrett (4), Joel Vandeleur (4) and Darcy Brown (3) leading the way. Vandeleur, Jackson Daniels, Brown, Henry Mathews, Sam Lawrie and Ellison were named best for the Eagles, while the Magpies best included Fred Nissen, Levi Baillie and Dene McKinlay.


Encounter Bay consolidated their top-three position with a solid 22-point win against Strathalbyn. The Bays win was set up by a dominant third quarter where they kicked 6.2 to 1.1 to lead by a commanding 52 points at the last change. The Roosters battled the game out well, kicking six goals to one in the final term, before Encounter Bay eventually won 13.12 (90) to 10.8 (68). Kyle Lyndon kicked six goals in a best-on-ground performance for the Bays, while Tyson Neale kicked three majors. Richard O’Grady and Ben Simounds kicked three goals each for ‘Strath’. Joining Lyndon in the best players for the Bays were Ryan Pearsons, Tyler Baldock, Tyler McCreanor, Andrew Fyfe and Callum Tonkin. Best players for the Roosters included Charles Durack, Tay Crawford-Sandison, Brock Keding, Daniel Pegler, Mark Tucker and Ethan Fox.


Langhorne Creek won their sixth game of 2024 with a 29-point win at home against Mt Compass. It was a high scoring start to the game with 12 goals kicked in the first quarter as ‘Compass’ took a 12-point lead to quarter time. Langhorne Creek controlled the second term, kicking 4.4 to 0.3, to lead by 13 points at the long break. Mt Compass hit the front in the third term, before Langhorne Creek kicked two late goals to lead by a slender four points at three quarter time. The home side had the momentum as they kicked five goals to one in the last quarter to win 16.10 (106) to 11.11 (77). Henry Bruce, Jarrod Kellock and Matt Uebergang all kicked three goals for the Hawks, while Ziggy Vitkunas also kicked three goals for the Bulldogs. Langhorne Creek skipper Matt Dominish was best-on-ground and he was well supported by Henry Bruce, Angus Cole, Kellock, Mitch Cleggett and Darcy Paech. Best for Mt Compass were Rilee Endersby, Shannon Jones, Klaus Simons, Lochie Nash, Harry Wilcock and Will Zimmermann.
