Yankalilla pulled off one of the upsets of the season after defeating finals-bound Encounter Bay by one point during round 11 action in the Great Southern Football League (GSFL) at Yankalilla on Saturday. Bailey Gaskin kicked his second goal of the match on the siren to give the Tigers victory, 16.7 (103) to 15.12 (102). Other multiple goalkickers for Yankalilla included Cameron Ker (3), Joel Field (3), Thaddeus Puautjimi (3) and Joel Kay (2), while the Tigers best players were Joe Tyllis, Lachlan Whittlesea, Michael Thompson, Gaskin, Ker and Tyler Athanasos. Ben Davis and Nick Marshall kicked three goals each for the Bays, while their best were Marcus Lippett, Mitchell Davis, Ben Davis, Callum Tonkin, Marshall and Peter Spurling.
Strathalbyn won their second game in a row after defeating Goolwa/Port Elliot by 77 points at Strathalbyn on Saturday. The Roosters led by just eight points at halftime, before kicking 13 goals to two after the main break to win 18.8 (116) to 6.3 (39). Declan Grant kicked nine goals in a best-on-ground display for ‘Strath’, while skipper Jake Stafford gave great support with five majors. Other good players for Strathalbyn were Liam Newton, Jacob Wright, Thomas Welk and Declan Gladigau. Best players for the Magpies included Jye Bottroff, Kai Iwao, Dene McKinlay, Jayden Davis, Kaiden Wilton and Sam O'Flaherty (2 goals).
Victor Harbor maintained top spot with a comprehensive 150-point win at home over Langhorne Creek. ‘Victor’ had 10 different goalkickers with Harry Vincent, Bryce Gibbs and Jackson Elmes kicking four goals each to fire the ‘Roos to a 27.15 (177) to 4.3 (27) victory. Vice-Captain Elmes was named best for Victor Harbor and he received great support from Matthew Wiese, Kane Cooper, Vincent, Noah Farley and Lachlan Hartshorne. Lachlan Bates (2 goals), William Bruce, Tom Derham, Harry Cates, Jake Yard and Matt Dominish were named best for the Hawks.
McLaren Districts consolidated their position in the top-three with a 65-point victory at Mount Compass. The first quarter was tight with the Eagles holding a slender five-point lead at quarter time. 13 goals to five in the final three quarters saw McLaren Districts run out winners 16.17 (113) to 7.6 (48). Luke Mitton kicked five goals for the Eagles, while Archie Rutt and Matthew Merrett kicked three goals each. Best players for the visitors included Lachlan Camm, Leon Groves, Mitton, Rutt, Brett Ellis and Daniel Marr. Mt Compass was best served by Klaus Simons, Nathan Schulz, Hugh Daniell, Tom Vitkunas, Lochie Nash and Adam Hunter.
Willunga won their eighth game in a row after defeating reigning premier Myponga-Sellicks by 58 points at Willunga on Saturday. The win was set up by a powerful second term which saw Willunga kick six unanswered goals to take a handy 39-point lead at halftime. A further six goals to three in the second half saw the Demons triumph 15.7 (97) 5.9 (39). Willunga’s best players were Jake Shirvington, Aaron Douglass, Nathan Stark, Liam Nye, Sam Renney and Harry Saunders, while Daniel Nobes slotted six majors. Best for the Mudlarks were Anthony Kempster, Mitchell Wilkins, Jake Spinks, Hayden Sampson, Jayden Scott and Connor Sampson.
