The search for South Australia’s next AgTown of the Year has begun, with nominations for the award now open.
Now in its fourth year, the annual South Australian Agricultural Town of the Year recognises South Australian towns that excel in agricultural practices and the flow-on effect on their surrounding communities.
Last year’s winner was the Eyre Peninsula community of Kimba, which was selected from 59 nominations from across the state.
The two previous winners were Pinnaroo and Cleve, so it may well be time for a Fleurieu town to get the nod.
The award places a sharp focus on the importance of developing and maintaining a strong and vibrant agriculture sector to benefit regional communities through employment and its subsequent social and economic impacts.
Nominated towns will then be put in a public vote from Monday 27 June to help select five finalists who will vie for the title of 2022 South Australian Agricultural Town of the Year.
The winner will be announced at the Regional Showcase celebration in November.
The recognition comes with a town entrance sign recognising their achievement and a certificate and trophy presented by the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development.
There will also be a community event and sign unveiling ceremony and a double-page feature in SALIFE magazine.
Nominations close Friday 17 June and anyone can nominate their favourite town by visiting the AgTown website.
