With the final quarter of 2022 well underway it is time to think about those who have made a contribution to their communities this year.
The City of Onkaparinga and the City of Victor Harbor have called for nominations for their 2023 citizenship awards.
The Citizen of the Year Awards recognise the extraordinary contributions of individuals and groups in the community.
There are four standard awards categories: Citizen of the Year; Young Citizen of the Year; Community Event of the Year; and an award for Active Citizenship.
The Citizen of the Year award goes to someone who has made an extraordinary contribution to the community and may recognise outstanding service over a number of years.
The Young Citizen of the Year is someone aged over 16 years and under 30 years of age on 26 January, 2023.
Community Event of the Year goes to the person or group who has staged the most outstanding event for their community.
To be eligible for these three awards the person, or group must hold Australian Citizenship.
The Award for Active Citizenship is presented to a person or group delivering outstanding work on an event or project for the community during the past calendar year.
The person or group need not be Australian Citizens.
The City of Onkaparinga also makes awards to Little Hero of the Year and Sportsperson of the Year.
Nominations are also open for citizenship awards in the District Council of Yankalilla.
Close of nominations for all three council areas is 18 November.
Full details of the awards and how to nominate are on the council websites: City of Onkaparinga, City of Victor Harbor and District Council of Yankalilla.
Hardcopy application forms can be returned to the local council office.
The winners of the Citizen of the Year Awards will be announced in January 2023.
Official awards ceremonies will take place on Australia Day, 26 January 2023.
Nominations have not yet been publicised for Alexandrina or Kangaroo Island, but details will available on their websites shortly.
