The two-month window has opened for dog and cat registration renewal, with local councils sending out notifications.

All registrations are due by 31 August and can be made on the South Australian dogs and cats online website.

Pet owners are asked to check and update their details when renewing registrations.

Pets no longer receive a new coloured tag every year, but keep a grey tag for life. If lost, replacement tags can be ordered online, or owners may choose to purchase a metal tag and have the registration number engraved.

Every council has its own by-laws that govern pet ownership, such as how many are permitted on each premises and how they deal with strays.
