Tough day for Southern Districts Women's Cricket

It was a tough day for the Southern Districts Women yesterday as the first grade slumped to their fifth defeat of the season in the SACA Premier Cricket competition and are still without a win in the 2019/20 season. Southern Districts won the toss and sent Northern Districts in at Salisbury Oval and the move paid immediate dividends with Selina Solman picking up opening batter Stephanie Beazleigh to leave the home side at 1/1. Samantha Betts (57) and skipper Tegan McPharlin (28) then put their team right on top with a second wicket partnership worth 94 runs. The Stingrays hit back hard with the ball to take 9/51 to bowl Northern Districts out for 146 in the 34th over. Five Stingrays bowlers claimed wickets with Kelly Armstrong (3/34), Keely Stone (2/9), Solman (2/11) and Caitlin Seccafien (2/35) the main destroyers.

The Stingrays reply got off to a disastrous start as they fell to 5/5 inside the first 10 overs of their innings with Betts (3/6) and Darcie Brown (2/8) doing all the damage. Kylie Rattray (17) and Kendall Howell (11) tried hard to get their side back in the contest but eventually the Stingrays were bowled out for just 58 in the 24th over. Taylah Gregory (2/9) and Neisha Iles (2/20) were the other multiple wicket takers for the second placed Jets.

The second grade game scheduled for Bice Oval yesterday was abandoned due to the wet weather last Friday and Saturday.
