Tough night on the diamond for Strathalbyn in their clash with the Magpies

Hills Softball Association ‘A’ Grade Women (Strathalbyn v Hahndorf)

Finally getting a mild and dry game Hahndorf were up to bat first and had several safe hits and two basers to Georgia King, Megan Williams and Zoe Young which helped bring in seven runs with Strath’s third baser Rebekah Mayes fielding and throwing to Tessa Norris at first for the first out, a catch taken at left field by Rebecca Sims and a catch taken at centrefield by Emily Eglitis ending the innings. Strathalbyn came up to bat and even though they had hits to Norris, Taminka Wilks, Britt Jackson, Eglitis and Jordarna Wilks, they were unable to bring anyone home with Hahndorf’s left fielder Young taking a catch, third baser Mia Oats-Willis also taking a catch, and shortstop Peyton Daniels combining with Oats-Willis for the out at third to send Strath back to the dugout.

Hahndorf’s second batting dig produced more safe hits and with great base running they brought in a further four runs while Strath’s Mayes took a catch, a K2 to the pitcher/catcher combo of the Wilks twins and another running catch taken by Sims sent them from the diamond. Strathalbyn knew they had to make good choices of which pitches to hit and they did with Mayes and Sims gaining walks and Mayes getting home but Hahndorf’s Williams was having a great game at second base, fielding and making a tag on the runner and then throwing to Nichola Zobel at first for the double play and then taking a catch to end the innings before Strath could get anyone else home.

Strath changed their pitcher/catcher combo to Norris to Jackson for Hahndorf’s third batting dig and brought results only allowing one safe hit with Chloe Zakelj taking a catch at second, a K2 and another catch by Sims at left-field to hold them scoreless. The third dig for Strath produced one run to Jackson after some great base stealing, the only other batter to get on base was Mayes gaining a walk after some good pitch choices with Hahndorf making all three outs at first with the safe glove of Zobel.

The fourth batting dig for Hahndorf saw them add four runs to the board before Strath’s Zakelj took a great catch having to run back and to the side, Eglitis took another catch at centrefield and Sims took a great running catch at left-field to end the innings. Strath came in to bat and needed to add runs to the tally but were unable to, with Hahndorf just too good in the field with a K2, a catch at right-field by Charlotte Fairley and the final out at first base. Final scores for the game were Hahndorf 15 defeating Strathalbyn 2.
