Stage one of the 2024 men’s Tour Down Under kicked off in the Barossa today, but stage five on Saturday 20 January is all about the southern vales, starting in Christies Beach and finishing on Willunga Hill.
In between the riders will cover 129.3km, travelling through Port Noarlunga and collecting sprint points in Willunga township and at Snapper Point.
They will climb Willunga Hill twice in this penultimate stage of the race and organisers will hope for as thrilling a finish as in the women’s race last weekend, when Sarah Gigante won the stage and the ochre jersey.
The race starts at 11.10am, with an estimated hilltop finish at 2.30pm.
As with the women’s race South Australian Police will implement rolling road closures, which may last for around 30 minutes as the cyclists pass through.
Further road closures and parking restrictions will be in place in Willunga to support the event. Visit the TDU website for details.
More details of what is happening around the race in the City of Onkaparinga can be viewed on the council website.
