The Paddle Steamer Oscar W operates from the Goolwa Wharf with the work of a dedicated team of enthusiastic volunteers.
The Friends of Oscar W committee is calling for some new hands on deck and have scheduled an 'on the water' training day for those interested in getting involved.
It will be held on Wednesday 13 September for current and new volunteers at Goolwa Wharf.
Committee member Kelvin Brown says The Friends of PS Oscar W are preparing for another busy spring and summer cruising season.
“We are always looking for volunteers, particularly those with appropriate marine or technical tickets and those with some river or water experience, even if it only be in pleasure craft.
“We also have lots of opportunities for those just plain keen to learn and share in the Oscar W experience.
“The Friends are recognised as the largest volunteer group across Alexandrina Council and make a huge contribution every year to bring Goolwa’s Riverport history to life by operating and maintaining the paddle steamer and Riverboat Centre.
“It’s very satisfying – you meet lots of new people, use your skills, learn new skills and share a laugh.”
The training day will start at 9am and finish at 3.30pm, with a barbecue lunch provided.
“Anyone interested can send an email with their contact details and skills or give me a call on 0431 024 314,” Kelvin Brown says.
