The Victor Harbor Sprint Triathlon will be held on Warland Reserve and a series of surrounding roads this Sunday 8 October.
The new event is part of the Australian Masters Games, held in Adelaide from 7 to 14 October.
It is run by Pushing Limits Events and is open to participants beyond the Masters Games.
The City of Victor Harbor has advised local residents and visitors to plan ahead and expect traffic delays.
It says tTe following roads will be closed from 7.15am to 12pm:
The council says emergency services vehicle access will be maintained throughout all road closures, but resident access to and from properties will be for emergencies only.
This will be facilitated by traffic controllers on the day.

A triathlon held in March this year caused major traffic disruption and delays for people in and around Encounter Bay, drawing an apology from Victor Harbor Mayor Moira Jenkins.
She blamed a change of management and venue to Warland Reserve for the issues, which she said would be addressed for future events.
