A man and woman will face court after a police pursuit in a stolen car last night.

At 9.45pm on Sunday 23 May police were called to Paradise Drive, Wirrina Cove after reports of a car and two people looking suspicious. The vehicle had left that location prior to patrols arrival. Checks revealed the car was stolen from Alberton on Thursday 20 May.

Patrols searched the area and located the car just after 11pm on Main South Road, Second Valley. The patrol got out of the car and approached the occupants but when the patrol knocked on the window, the driver immediately reversed and hit the front of the police car before driving off towards Cape Jervis. The patrol pursed the car for a short time but was terminated for safety reasons and the Hyundai Getz was last heading toward Delamere.

More patrols were called to the area and about 11.40pm, the car was seen on Range Road travelling towards Victor Harbor. Spikes were successfully deployed on Range Road and punctured two of the car's tyres.

However, the car continued driving and was pursued as it turned onto Victor Harbor Road where it eventually stopped just after midnight near Mount Compass, and the driver and passenger were both arrested.

The driver, a 24-year-old man, and the passenger, a 19-year-old woman, both from Largs Bay were charged with a raft of offences including engaging in a police pursuit and illegal use of a motor vehicle.

They have been refused police bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today.
