Myponga and Strathalbyn have made the top 10 in contention for South Australia’s Ag Town of the Year, following a popular vote from around the state.

As two towns came in at tenth with equal votes the Top 10 is in fact a Top Eleven.

They are, in order of voting: Myponga, Waikerie, Jamestown, Bordertown, Orroroo, Strathalbyn, Wudinna, Eudunda, Ardrossan, Crystal Brook and Yunta.

These towns will now be invited to provide written submissions to be reviewed by a panel of independent judges, who will select three finalist towns.

The finalists will be visited for assessment in September, with one ultimately proclaimed the South Australian Ag Town of the Year for 2023.

The winner will be announced at the Regional Showcase Awards Celebration Evening on Thursday 9 November 2023.

Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Clare Scriven says having a top ten is new this year, providing the opportunity to widen the recognition and appreciation of the towns, their surrounding regions and their communities.

“Our regions contribute $29 billion to the state’s economy each year and their contribution deserves to be celebrated.

“Congratulations to our Top 11 towns and all the best for the next stage in what is a very rigorous process to become our very worthy Ag Town of the Year for 2023.”

The award highlights the importance of developing and maintaining a strong and vibrant agriculture sector in South Australia by recognising towns excelling in agricultural practices, strengthening their region, and supporting a vibrant and resilient community.
